    Hi folks

I'm after some help with reading the fault codes on my Caddy.

I've had the coil light on for around 2000 miles with no obvious reason.

I bought an OBDII reader from Euro Car Parts which works as I've used it on my Golf.

The van went into limp mode the other day, I suspect overboosting.

I'm keen to get this looked at but the reader won't connect to the van. The fuse is fine and the pins all seem ok. However, it looks like only pins 4 5 7 15 and 16 are there. The other slots are blank.

Is this normal or is it not a standard OBDII port?

I'm at a loss and really don't want to pay a garage with a possible turbo issue looming.

    Cheers.

Hi Danny. I have the same OBDII problem! Did you find a solution? I've read about Canbus connections to the radio stopping it working, particularly aftermarket radios but the standard issue ones can stop it too, but also a dud sensor can jam ECU comms too apparently. I'm going to have a look in the next day or so and see if I can sort it out.

Hi mate. I've not sorted it yet. I completely disconnected the radio and this didn't solve it. Had the ECU off and cleaned the connectors, etc. Cant see any issues on any of the wires, etc

Might have to go and take it to a garage....ffs

What code reader do you have? My problem was my reader, it was a cheapy I'd got a while back but it just couldn't do the job. I fix cars now and then anyway so bit the bullet and got a better one - hey presto! Bad injector found and replaced, plus fault code cleared. Worth the money for me :-)

In case you're wondering, I got a "NEXPEAK OBD2 Reader NX301" from Amazon, vastly superior to what I had before and only £26 :-)

I bought the Streetwize OBD11 one from Euro Car Parts. It's a well cheapo feeling thing to be fair but I tried another, admittedly another Streetwize one, and that was the same.

Might have a punt with the one you mentioned.

    I'll keep you posted.

    Cheers.

It's well known that some readers don't work with some cars, it's often not well documented which is which though!

I have no idea about the Streetwize ones, all I can say is that the Nexpeak one worked nicely on our Caddy, so hopefully it will on yours too :-)

One more thing, don't be surprised if it's a bad injector for you too. Apparently there was a bad batch or something in these 1.6 engines which had a tendancy to go open circuit (as mine did), causing the coil light to come on and triggering limp mode. If yours is the same I can tell you where I got a good reconditioned replacement from, all completely above-board and for a lot less than they are usually listed :-)

Hi mate. Ordered the reader last night and it came just now. Sadly, it didn't work but it's much better than the Streetwize one over got.

Guess it's time to take it to the garage and see what's what.

    Bugger.....

Sorry to hear that. As I said it worked for me, but I guess that was no guarantee for you. Maybe you have got something pulling the system down after all? If so, hopefully that can be found and sorted and then the new reader might work.
