One of the reasons I might of opted to add the Tech Pack had I had the chance to spec my car myself was the ability to have both my personal and work phones connected to the car at the same time. However the deal I got with the dealer was based on a car they had in stock so no Tech Pack.

The other evening I noticed when I got in the car that messages on the main MMI screen showed the car connecting to both phones. This got me wondering if both were connected. Going through the options under the phone menu on the DIS there is an option to "Switch Phones" and sure enough it would toggle between the two phones. Once I got home I then used a third phone and proved that both phones were connected and if the "unselected" phone is called the car automatically switches to that phone for the call and then switches back to the selected phone.

Reconsidering the value of the Tech Pack, you of course get the digital dash and a larger upper MMI screen, a slighty enhanced navigation system including Google Earth (3D buildings and personal route assitance comes with the standard navigation come with the standard navigation) and wireless charging of the phone, I cannot see that being worth £1500 and with the standard display capble of displaying a map like the C7 Tech Pack could I am not sure of the long term value of the Virtual Cockpit once the initial fun has worn off

How do you feel about the Tech Pack after another couple of months?

I've bought a stock car so couldn't specify any options (other than paint) and I wanted wireless charging (my wife's car has it - very handy). That said you can't use Android Auto unless connected via a cable so hey-ho!

I've never seen an A6 without Virtual Cockpit so I'm nervous that without it, the car will look poor.

Well... I officially ordered it yesterday and pick it up on Saturday so not long to wait!!!

Still more than happy without the Tech Pack. You can display the map between the dials on the main display (like you could on the facelift C7) so you have that function and I don't think it looks or feels like the car is the poor relation

I'm not sure whether it's worth £1500 but I do find the features you mention above useful. You also get 3 years of Audi connect - for me the best part of this is the google traffic that goes with the google earth maps.

Virtual cockpit is useful for the SatNav - now that the main display is lower, you have to take your eyes further away to look at it. Not a major problem but it's like most things - small gains for lots of cash!

Without the tech pack, do you still get 3 months of Audi Connect?

One trick that I learned on my previous A4 which only came with 3 months is that once it runs out, you can call Audi UK and they'll extend it for free. Worth a try maybe.

On the A6 you get 3 years Audi Connect as part of the standard set up, and the only feature you really miss out on is being able to use Google Earth. If being able to fill the whole instrument display with the map is important then you need virtual cockpit but I find the small map between the dials sufficient when I need it.

Do you need to put a sim in the car to use Audi Connect (sorry if that's a really stupid question).

But my car has a sim slot... If I don't need a sim, how does the wifi hotspot work? Surely Audi won't give me unlimited data? Might have to ask the dealer...?

You can use the Audi Connect services with the built in esim and the 3 year subscription that comes with the car. If you want to use the Wifi hotspot then you need to add your own SIM.
