Sensor itself probably fault. Check wiring/connector for resistance and corrosion.
Obviously don’t work on air bag system if unfamiliar/untrained.

Had same problem on mine, Look at the yellow connector under the seat under the little square cut out carpet bit make sure it's got a good connection and not corroded then deleted the fault code then see if it comes back mine didn't is your golf a 3 door like mine the seat going forward and backwards all the time doesn't help

As far as I can tell all the connectors are ok.
So far I've checked the sensor in the door, check the wiring into the door and also wiring under the seat. I'm now at a total loss as to where I go from here. My mot has run out so I can't even take it to a garage to get checked out

    Two things:
*How did you check the sensor?
*How did you check the wiring?

Checked the sensor by swapping with drivers side. I figured if the sensor was faulty then the fault would move . Obviously I could be totally wrong. The wiring I checked continuity through the door as I've had some broken wires in the past which had been repaired and under the seat was just a visual check of the wiring and connector

Still no luck solving this one. Had it scanned on friday with vcds and it said open or short to plus. I'm thinking it could be the wiring in the door cos the light will stay off until I open the door. I'm am at a total loss as to where to go from here. Someone must have a suggestion

If the light stays off until you open the door it’s almost certainly a broken wire in the door, they nearly always break at the bendy rubber support casing which you can see when you open the door. Pop it out and have a look.
