I am trying to work out what brakes I have on my allroad. I have browsed some parts websites and the shiny pictures of the calipers there don't seem to match what little I can see of the calipers on mine. It doesn't help that it has taken until this evening to get to point where I could even take the wheels off, first waiting for the locking key and then to get a mate with an impact wrench to break the wheel bolts loose.

Anyway, is there plate somewhere which says which brake system the vehicle is fitted with as there seem to be several possibilities.

Inside first page of log book (see attached photo) or inside spare wheel well you will see all your car details - PR CODES. On logbook, Two lines down from paint code and last column (1LA in photo) is you FRONT brakes code.
1LA = TEVES Floating Caliper front brake
1LX = GIRLING Floating Caliper brakes
Rear brakes have no part codes and two types - one for 6-cylinder and one for 8-cylinder. Individual part codes for caliper housing, brake carrier, pads etc.

Thanks for the tip. The code on mine does not appear to be either of those two but is instead 1LX. Having finally managed to get the wheels off I can now see "Lucas Germany" cast into part of the caliper. Here are a couple of pics:#20190126_150207.jpg20190126_150213.jpg
