    Good morning folks,

Poolcow here, quick intro as not a fan of just jumping in and asking for advice without saying hello first. Long time lurker ( joined in 2014 I think lol ) but not a regular poster. Bit of an Audi man having gone through a lot of the range between me and Mrs Poolcow we've had TT, A3 Quattro, and she now on an S1 and I'm A4, A6 Quattro, Q7, A7 Quattro TFSI and onto my latest and so far the best S8.

Struggling with what's next after the S8 tbh but liking the look of RSQ8, just a bit out of my price range when it does land lol

Anyway enough rambling to the point. I'm hoping somebody could help with an issue I have just had on my 2015 S8.

Given its brass monkeys my lovely heater has decided to only blow ice cold air out. Last nights journey home in a T-Shirt was very pleasant..... I have had something similar with the A6 which was resolved by some advice from here I gleaned and hoping a resident expert can help out with the S8. Its not been a gradual reduction of heat but sudden where's it all gone moment. Engine temp is fine and when it first happened I did the IT fix of switch it off and on again ( all car ) and it blew hot. Now today its freezing and wont come back despite on and offing it a few times. Suspect it must be something electrical given the sudden nature of the fault but before I bend over at the dealer I like to know a little of what I'm about to be shafted on. Its 5 months out of Audi warranty but do have private warranty to fall back on but again forewarned is forearmed. Any experts out there seen similar and proffer any sage advice please. Many thanks in advance Daz ( aka Poolcow )

Could be heating circulation pump , it is located near wiper motor. It is electrical pump which push heat to heat exchanger in cabin. I had same issue on a8 2012 , but mine was working sometimes. In your case it could failed completely. Just guessing of course.

Evening all, and first time here so a quick intro - My name is Damon and I have a 2016 S8 which I picked up almost a year ago and covered by the Audi Extended Warranty. Only just joined this forum so this is my first post. Not had an Audi for years before this one, with my last being a 1983 reg 80 Coupe (2.2l) I bought for £300 when I was a student back in the late 1990s. Many, many anecdotes to share about trying to keep that nail roadworthy on a budget, but that's for another time.

Daz - I have just driven home to Lincolnshire from Manchester in my S8, and a few miles into my journey I had the same problem you described above back in Jan 2019. It's a chilly night and my feet are like blocks of ice! My question is, do you have any follow up on what caused your problem and how it was fixed? Mine's just due an oil service and inspection so I'll have them look at it whilst it's in, but any info would be helpful. Like you I suspected IT issues but the 'three finger salute' didn't work either so if it is a component failure then I'll cross my fingers that it's covered by the warranty.

    Cheers

I did get to the bottom of it and should have used my warranty......

there are two water pumps that service the HVAC system independently. One of these had failed. Obviously it was the second more difficult to get at one.

another symptom was I was losing a bit of coolant and had to top up occasionally

i recon con all in it cost about 1200 to get it sorted but that was a few visits to the local independent specialist I’ve used for years.

point them in that direction first and yes I did find out later it was covered in my privately undertaken warranty

love the S8 still and only thing I’m struggling with is what to replace it with lol

    hope this helps

By way of follow up, the problem with mine was identified as the V50 pump (the one beneath the wipers I believe). Cost to replace it is £250 at my main dealer although the part is around £50 I think. Interestingly this is exactly the amount of the excess on the extended warranty! All being sorted during the service it's currently in for so all being well I'll collect it tomorrow and have a roasty-toasty drive home.

Thanks, but part of me wishes I didn't know that! It's a job I happily tackle normally, but I've no time to work on it for at least a couple of weeks and I need a heater, so I've no option but to have the dealer sort it. Disappointing that such a fundamental part would fail in a 4 year old car (in my case) though. Doesn't fill me with confidence for the longer ownership proposition. I thought these things were supposed to be bullet proof?

In my case it is only that pump which failed in my a8. But comparing to your s8 mine is 3.0 diesel, less complex engine but as well different fun to drive ( i wish i had s8 ). This pump is also put into a7,a6,a5,a4 and some models of VW cars. There are also 2 revisions of this pump but I couldn't find info if they can be swapped about so i installed original revision. After taking out faulty unit out i tested pump on bench. Pump has 2 magnetic coils , if pump runs and stops( after engine shutdown ) in position where faulty coil is it will not start anymore, thats why we are having issues with our heating. Simple device but just causes a lot of pain in cold weather
