Hi all, got a dilemma, I’m running an 06, A6 C6 3.0 V6 tdi avant Quattro with a BMK engine code.
Love it, makes me smile but it’s not without issue. I invested in VCDS which brought up a heap of codes and issues but nothing to put me off.
Cold weather has appeared and VCDS tells me that 4 of my six glow plugs are caput and need replacing. No problem I thought, call local motor factors, give reg no., gp’s arrive and are checked against originals and are found to be 3+mm longer.
I’m aware that there is a pre combustion chamber in the piston and the glow plug sticks out into the cylinder like the injector but I’m worried that putting the longer plug in will result in slappy piston glow plug mush.

    Part numbers as follows.

OE that we pulled out - 059963319E or maybe F

    Bosch p/n sent as replacement - 0250403009

    OE length 127.1mm

    Bosch length 130mm

Can I should I fit the new ones or is there another option?

    Thanks

So I did a bit more cross referencing and I’m more confused. I saw in a post on here about glow plug issues that the op had used a BERU GE 115 which is 130mm long, again it cross references to the Oe number and the Bosch number so it should be ok to fit the longer ones.
Can anyone give a definitive answer on whether the longer gp’s will fit without issue.......anyone :-)

Two different types can be fitted to the BMK, Bosch ceramic or Beru metal.

Using your VIN on ETKA FI Suggestion it says your car would have been fitted with Beru 059 963 319 E which changed to F on 01-04-08, J on 01-10-10, M on 01-09/13, S on 01-10-16, and finally AB on 01-10-18 and this was a Beru GE115 but changed to GE133.

There is a warning message at the beginning of the page which states

“Note!! If changing bulbs from Beru, a check to see if control unit needs to be flashed is essential. Please observe Technical Product Information and workshop manual”

They don’t give a TPI number and there is nothing in The Red Book on your car.

When they say “bulbs” they are referring to the glow plugs
I would just stick to Beru anyway, they are my favourite and GSF do a decent price on them.

The safety precautions for glow plug changing only apply to the BMK engine up to and including 2005 and yours is a 2006.

The torque spec is 17Nm for Beru metal.

Crasher, thanks heaps for taking the time to look into this for me, indeed the originals have p/n 059 963 319E so I shall be looking for a set of Beru GE 133's to replace them.

I shouldn't be concerned by the extra 3mm length on the 133's over the originals??

    Thanks again.

The system I use called Tec Doc gives the dimensions for the GE115 but not the GE133 and the link to Beru’s web site is broken and I did not have the time to delve deeper but I trust their cross reference.... sort of!

Crasher, many thanks for the info you provided above, I went the TPS route and fitted the new OE spec glow plugs yesterday. The real test came this morning when she cranked 3 or 4 times in minus 3 temps and fired right up, no excessive cranking, no flat battery, no cross words! Now I've sorted that I can move on to the next bit that needs attention.......
