Hello everyone, if anyone is familiar with VW replacement policy for their 1.4 TSI twincharger engines (160hp) under warranty in Europe (EU): I would like to know what parts exactly did VW replace when they replaced an engine due to block damage (caracked pistons and cylinders) ? Did they only replace the engine block, or did they also replace injectors, spark plugs, coils, pumps, turbo and (most importantly) the ECU ?

I am mostly interested in the case of older production engines (2009-2010) which failed and were replaced after 2012, by which time all those parts listed above should have been upgraded to the latest version. Thanks for the info.

It’s an odd question and why would it be important to change the ECU, you need to explain more clearly what you are thinking.

It's not odd at all for anyone who knows the problems of this engine. All of the parts listed (minus the tubro ?) had problems originally, which were gradually solved by replacing each part with a different version. Over the years VW changed injectors, plugs, coils, pumps, part of the compressor, oil squirters and ECU (which went through several versions). By 2012 these had all been revised, so if VW also replaced these parts, not just the block, on engines which failed post-2012, than that engine is trouble free... well mostly Trouble is VW won't admit to this officially, because it would put them in a very bad light. So I'm asking those which had engines replaced (ideally post-2012), or maybe VW technicians... unofficially

If you classed every part that was upgraded as a problem we would be in dire trouble, the Golf7 heater matrix has been revised several times and even non problematic parts are upgraded constantly such as with new models and emissions regulation revisions so you cannot place emphasis on parts changes alone. There are many technical product information notices on this engine but you also have to bear in mind that it received the International Engine of the year award outright twice and won in its class a further two times. The problem is, downsizing, it does not work and VW have called a halt to it, at its core you can blame the EU with its unachievable emissions targets, the whole thing is a worse mess than Brexit....

If every part would lead or contribute to the engine cracking pistons and busting up cylinder heads, then yeah. Luckily not every engine had a replacement rate of 20-30%

Anyway, I'd settle for knowing if "replacement engines" from VW also came with new injectors+plugs+coils ? Those are expensive so replace privately. If anyone had this problem maybe they could let us know.
