I recently bought a Touran from a friend with the Emissions Workshop warning on the dash and the yellow warning light illuminated on the dash. Another friend read the codes and it pointed to a fault with the air flap (sometimes called the throttle body) as well as insufficient flow detected through the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve. After replacing both components (pretty simple on the 2.0tdi BKD engine) the codes were cleared (with my newly purchased cheap code reader) and it passed the MOT yesterday. Get the codes read first then take it from there as it could be many other things but I believe my issues to be very common faults on older cars. Mine is 2004 with 135k miles.
