Is my BCM faulty? - VW 2.0 TDI Touran 2011

Have my wife to thank for lemon juice and bicarb idea, I was ready to sandpaper everything! Her hands in the photos by the way, much easier for her to undo things in the cramped engine bay! Just going to put it all back together, fingers crossed some magic happens!

Hi Both!

IT ONLY BLOODY WORKED!

We cleaned everything, put the fuse box back in and as soon as I connected the battery, the interior lights came back on! I then started the engine, the A/C lit up and then I tested everything and it all appears to be working, central locking, windows, mirrors, radio, lights, all door sensors, the lot! Left the engine running for ages, no cutting out. We've left the car in pieces for now, putting it back together tomorrow.

I ran a new diagnostic and it's much clearer, couple of errors about the lights because the dash is apart. I'll post more tomorrow once we've put everything together and I've run some more tests.

So happy I can't even begin to explain!

I had a 2010 Toerag in yesterday with odd electrical issues, the owner had stopped the current drain by pulling the radio fuse. I looked at the diagram and followed it back to the source fuse. Under the front seat is a similar idea fuse box with the same Midi fuses, the one for the right dash side fuse board was corroded as were all the ones in the lineup.

Hi again, here's the latest!

Wife and I spent a good couple of hours putting the car back together today, starting the car every now and then to make sure all was ok! Did some more testing with the meter and discovered that three aftermarket (I think) circuits with 15A inline fuses were all corroded too. So I replaced those and we weather proofed them the best we can. Just took it out for a drive with my wife following behind and all good. Everything works, tested the radio, A/C, windows, sensors, park assist, rear heated windscreen, start/stop (well tested it didn't throw an error when I turned it off and on which it used to), wipers, indicators, horn and all good. Running on the new battery after charging it last night and the start is very snappy. May as well use the new battery as I can't exactly take it back!

Have run a new diagnostic and while it is very clear it was behaving a little weirdly, every now and then appearing to lose connection. Here's the log and like I say, as far as I can see it's all working. Would appreciate some thoughts on the couple of errors in the log

Can you manually access the controllers that come up OK in the auto scan list but not in the full scan? Is the radio a factory original unit? You are using a non Ross Tech lead me thinks?

Hi Crasher,

I forgot to click on the controllers in question during the scan! Good point, I'll try again tomorrow evening. Radio is factory default as far as I know although I did fit a non factory radio and then switch back about two years ago. The lead is not a Ross Tech, I got from ebay. It says VAG17 on one side and HEX+CAN on the other?

Actually, I just took another look at the lead and after peeling back the CE mark, took this picture:

Perhaps it's more genuine that I thought!

Wife just took the car on a 40 minute ish trip and it seems fine, all in all a productive weekend. Do you think the problems with the diagnostic could be caused by a dodgy lead, maybe it's a knock off, how would I tell?!
