What are the service intervals for the computer?

When I bought my 2007 Passat 2.0 TDI the message "SERVICE NOW!" was coming up every time I started the car, and after getting the oil changed and checking everything else (certainly not paying VW to do an "official" service) I reset it myself, and now 5,000 miles has elapsed and I'm getting ready to book it in for another oil change as I do every 6k on all my vehicles.

I was just wondering though after how many miles the service warning would re-appear?

It doesn't really matter as every time it does I'll just reset it since I'm doing it at MY intervals, but if I were one of those people who just waited to be told that it needed done, how often would that be?

The service intervals depend on which plan is set Fixed or Flexible and whether it is an oil service or one of the more significant services. The factory settings use the ridiculous Long Life intervals which most DIY / savvy people change to the shorter ones if they have the ability (you can do this easily with VCDS). The car apparently monitors oil quality these days on the Flexible Service regime and calculates when it feels it's time! This applies to newer models but I'm not sure this applies to the 3C2 (B6) even though it has a Flexible Service setting. My service has just been prompted and it is 6 months since I did an oil change so this will be the Interim or Major service but as I do all of the work, I take no notice of this anyway as I know what needs doing and when. Mine is set to the shorter Fixed 'Standard' intervals (distance / time whichever is reached first) as far as the computer is concerned so is meant to prompt oil changes at 10K or 12 months.

There is a list of available service settings in VCDS when querying / changing such using VCDS software and a Ross Tech cable.

Over 200K so I drop oil every 6k now (around 9 months as I live closer to work than I used to) but up to then it was 9 to 10K or twice yearly.
