I meant the age of the battery.

Does the mmi turning the start stop off not just bring the circled a up in the dash, not an actual fault message?.
To protect the battery is not a fault but a regular operation. Therefore there is no additional fault message on the DIS, because the regular operation is to show the "slashed A" on the dashboard.

The most easiest way to check whether this is the problem or not is to replace the battery with a different one, and if the problem disappears, than the case can be closed. You don't need a new one, but another one from an Audi with the same specifications. Usually a car seller can do it for you.

No idea on the age of the battery. I guess it's the original still.
Reason I ask about the error message in the dash between the clocks, being different to the crossed out A is that in the manual it says that, that message appearing In the dash is an error and should be taken to the garage.

Maybe I missed it, but I still can't find your car's age. Was it built in 2011, or in 2017? It's not the same

that message appearing In the dash is an error and should be taken to the garage.
Can you please take a picture from the error message, or type it as it appears on the DIS?

I know when i had same issue in the past it basically said start/stop system deactivated restart engine manually and would cut out the engine out just like it would if the start stop was activated.

Then the battery should be good, it's not too old.

Start /stop system fault. Function unavailable.
I think, in this case it's not a battery problem, and there should be an error code during a VCDS scan. IMHO please check for a fellow member next to you who has a VCDS, and look up the proper error code.

Hi if you are fairly confident the battery is the issue then I would ask the garage to replace with a new one as goodwill. If that doesn't resolve the fault ask them to get it looked at by Audi and offer to pay say 75% of the battery price to show goodwill on your part. At lest you would then have a starting point in resolving it...

Been out in the car today. Error came up on the dis again. Start stop system fault. Function unavailable.
Got my mate round to scan it again. I now have the following 3 errors,
Gear recognition sensor - inplausable signal.
Gear recognition sensor - electrica malfunction.
Gear recognition sensor - gear position inplausable.

No lights came on the dash and car drive fine. Just no start stop and that annoying message.... we don't even use the start stop. Lol
