Looking to move from a C6 to a C7 thoughts?

Hi Folks,

I'm into the 4th year of our 2008 Sline C6 2.0tdi manual Saloon. I've been looking about at replacements as its got a few things looming and some small rusty bits starting too show plus I think the C6 is really starting to show its age design wise now IMO.
I've been looking at all sorts of cars but a C7 in a similar spec to the current car seems the best value, just wondered what people think of the C7 and anything to watch out for when buying? Budget wise its going to be low ball around £7.5k to £9k which although would get me a tidy SE I really dislike the streeing wheel and seats on the SE and don't want to go over 100k mile approx, so basically I'm looking for unicorn if I want to try and get an early Sline around 20012 -2012!

Hi Only one thing to say, go for a Facelift and Tech pack with online data. Good hunting...

My brother in law drives 2012 2.0 tdi estate with manual gearbox.
Car has over 180 000 miles and is pretty problem free.
Only problem is clutch judder what is common on manual C7's
If you go for 3.0 tdi Chain wear and stretch is common at 120 000 plus miles.
Its pretty big job to change and therefore expensive.

Should just be able to get an s line for that price, manual can have probs with DMF, the early auto box has an entirely unfair rep as it fits with the car perfectly and had by that time had all it's bugs ironed out. Check gb oil was changed every 38k and it's fine. Other than that so long as it's been dealer services you should be fine. Check cam belt for replacement at 5yr interval.

I moved from VW CC to C7 FL 2015 2.0 ultra stronic. Got it 2 year old with 22k km on the clock. After owning it for 1.5 year and completing 48k km I had following issues:
- passenger mirror heating fault. Replaced a mirror glass myself for 55e
- gearbox oil sump gasket leak at 69k km. Got a goodwill from Audi and only cost 195e to replace the oil sump, gasket and fill with the fresh ATF. Regular price was 550e
- AdBlue pump failed just after the gb gasket at 69k km as well. Also goodwill, cost to me 340e. Regular price over 800e - this seems to be a common issue for 2014-2015 cars.

I’m on the second set of Goodyear eagle assym 3 tyres. First set last 48k km.

I service car with Audi. I love it, obviously, it would be nicer to not have the above issues but cars break, that’s their nature...

Facelift is much better than pre-Facelift, but doubt you will get one on your budget. 2.0 cars with the 177bhp engine (ie non-Ultra) were impacted by the Dieselgate saga. Not a lot you can do if the car has had the work done, but may be worth looking for any that have not had the work done so yopu can avoid any potentialissues associated with the "fix". If you end up going with an auto, the non-ultra 2.0 cars have the multitronic box rather than s-Tronic. Transmission oil change at every 38k miles is essential with either auto box. Both my pre and post-FL C7 Avants have suffered with the fuel filler flap jamming. Not a lot you can do about it, if it happens it happens but something to be aware of. Personally I would be very reluctant to buy a C7 without some sort of warranty. If something goes wrong it can be very expensive to fix. At the mileage you are talking about the car will be due (or have had) a timing belt change. Factor this cost (if it has not been done) into the price you pay and also make sure they did the water pump at the same time.

On these engines fix doesn't make such a big mess and its possible rather easily to go back to older software version without fix.
Pre-facelift front wheel drive cars with multitronic seems to work pretty well and bad reputation on it is from older versions in C5 and C6 A6 models.
Yes, S-tronic and Multitronic has oil and filter changes at 38k miles.
Timing belt kit interval is 5 years or 114 000 miles and is so much better to do then fight with chain on V6.
Its good idea to keep 1k in pocket if something goes wrong with used car like this to get it back on road.
