Hello all, I've recently purchased a 2015 SE Business Passat estate - so far all good (1 week)
Coming from an A4 Avant I'm impressed with how much space there is inside, will fit the wife, kids and dogs in just fine.
I noticed a button on the steering wheel similar to my previous car for voice control, when I press it I get this -

So I called the local VW dealer who has stated that I need to have the hardware installed for this to work at a cost of £280 plus some pennies.
Now to me, the message on the dash reads as if it simply needs to be activated.
Has anyone else had this before and can you confirm if this is actually the case? That the only way to get voice control is with some additional hardware.
All I am looking to do is to be able to hit the button, tell it to call to the wife / parent / friend etc and for it to do it all without touching anything else...
The previous car, a 2018 A4 Avant had all sorts of magical things it could do, searching for the closest KFC, sending a text message, sat nav voice control among many other things. All I want is to make simple hands free calls.
I have bluetooth and can connect the phone and make calls without issue, it would be nice to do it by voice. Not £280 quid nice though.
Hope someone can either confirm or deny what VW have told me.
Thanks in advance.
