Passat 2.0 Highline 2009 Estate. Possibly coincidental with a battery change but I have recently lost the ability to remotely move and heat the Drivers side wing mirror. Also affected is central locking where the drivers side only does not lock. The drivers armrest controls do not illuminate either when lights are switched on. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Have you tried the old dodge of disconnecting the battery leads (neg. first of course) and touching them together?

When reconnected and the car started you'll get a couple of warning lights which will disappear with a short drive.

Apologies in advance if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs etc.

Failing that, are the fuses, or one in particular (all the problems are driver's side), ok.

No need to apologise, any advice gratefully received! Drivers side fuses inspected and seem intact (visually)
Not tried the battery leads...is that really a thing??

Yes, take the leads off and touch them together, keep them well clear of the battery of course. It's a bit like resetting your laptop when it gets its knickers in a twist - disconnect from mains, remove battery and press the power-on button to clear any faults. 10mm spanner for the terminals - I always carry one in the boot, just in case.

The fuse could be anywhere, there's enough of them and you really need a list of what each one serves. Just seems a bit strange that all the faults are driver's-side related.

Have a look here: PASSAT B6 FUSE ASSIGNMENT - for RIGHT HAND DRIVE CARS - PASSAT

Not much Martin doesn't know about these things.

Sounds like you need a VCDS fault code scan to see if the car has anything to advise which may narrow your search for the reason as to why this is happening. Might indicate a problem with the door module or associated components.

Check the cables in the bellows where the door hinges are.
Obviuosly with every movement of the door they get bent back & forth & eventually the internal copper wires break.

Check them carefully for any breaks, they will probably look fine from the outside where the insulation will be holding them together.

My next suggestion Phil, after experiencing the same on a Mk5 Golf which had notoriously short door looms. The newer revision door looms however should be slightly longer allowing more play for the door movement. Haven't yet seen a Mk6 Golf or later B6 Passat with the same issue but worth a look all the same.

Nailed it, its the cables in the door hinge. Removed the rubber housing to reveal cracked cables.
Thanks everyone for the invaluable help

Thanks for the update, I wondered whether my solution was too simple. The battery change was a red herring, sod's law

Nice one - repair or going down the new loom route?
