I found it hard to believe when I read that Tesla batteries are made up of thousands of cells similar to those used in mobile phone batteries.

Apparently that is the cheapest way to make them.

    Hey ho.

"The number of cells depends on the size of the battery. For example, the Tesla Roadster has 6,831 in its ESS, the 60kWh Model S has 5,375, and the 85kWh Model S has 7,104."

I doubt the second or third owner of one of these would fork out for a new battery, and the car goes for scrap at 7 or 8 years old and I suspect most first owners will be reluctant to keep it beyond the initial warranty period. Renault owners lease a lot of batteries in their cars, maybe that's a better route to owning one ? Good point made about bodged repairs that will be attempted on these in years to come !!

I can't imagine the labour involved in testing each individual cell in a battery, replacing the faulty ones, and rebuilding it.

Audi gives 8 years full warranty on the battery. If you consider the cost to replace a new one (around 12.000€), and divided by the months of the warranty, it’s less than 140€ per month, which in my opinion isn’t so expensive for driving such a beautiful car, with ultimate luxury and comfort

I think that this checkin it’s done by the elctronic control system, which tells the technicians which cell it’s faulty, but this I just suppose it

BUT what happens when it is 16 years old? Look around you and tell me how many conventional cars are around 16 years old? My Octavia is 16 years old and is still in perfect condition, meets EU4 emissions on petrol engines and costs next to nothing to run and fix, THAT’s environmentaly freindly, scrapping a monster Q7 when it is ten years old is an environmental crime and the idiots pushing this insane technology will pay the dirty diesel price in around 20 years from now.... WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO WITH ALL THE OLD BATTERIES! It is so short sighted it is beyond compression.... (pun intended)

Anthropogenic climate change, the biggest con inflicted on mankind since religion...

I watched this about a year ago and it makes you realise how futile the whole approach to climate change is! Even if the rate of global population growth continues to slow, we will likely hit 15 billion in our children’s lifetime. I can’t see the next 100 years going well.

Worth watching the first 20 minute when you have a moment.

I will simply change the battery when it’s gone, but surely I’ll change the car even before, I’m not going to drive it 16 years, sorry
Did you really think than a person which spent 135.000 euros in a car it’s going to drive it 16 years ??? No, sure not.
