I have been trying to trace the source of a water leak for ages and then the other day I noticed water running down from the bonnet release handle

Anyone else had this? If so what was involved to fix it?

    Thanks!

There is a rubber grommet around the bonnet cable as it enters through the firewall. could be dislodged. Remove the scuttle panel and check down the side of the ecu box and see if you can see it

it does and it doesn’t leak from that. All the drain channels are clear. The water runs down from the bonnet release handle

I haven’t had the chance to look at the grommet in the engine bay because it hasn’t stopped raining!!

Ok thanks for that , was curious as today found footwell in my car is wet, drip of water also coming off the bonnet release, but further investigation shows water further up the “a” post trim. Will have a proper look over weekend, but rather looks like another panoramic roof failure. Car was a private buy , out of warranty, so not best pleased.

As you do in a Boxing Day you strip your car apart......

clearly i was looking at the wrong grommet but I couldn’t see it even after managing to remove the ecu and the fuse box out of the way. What i did find was a load of muck and grime lodged down there!

The 4G dosn’t get a plenum full of coarse leaves but fine debris gets in and builds up into a mud like substance this is difficult to clean out.

Yup. It was very much mud / sludge like substance. I was quite shocked at just how much had built up under the fuse box. I managed to clean a fair bit out but looks like I’m still on the hunt for the grommet for the bonnet cable
