Thanks again gents, had a poke around in mine today, plenum under the cabin air intake (passenger side ) was perfectly clear, the other under brake resevoir was clear but had fair bit of gunge round it, so may be it had got clogged and a run last week in heavy rain had caused build up of water to clear it but not before some had leaked into drivers footwell. Also checked sunroof drains, these seem to be clear and drain freely.

Doe that seem feasible ? any other suggestions ?

inclined to leave pulling headlining down until i’m sure there is definitely a problem. Had vents directed into footwell for last 1500 miles and all seems to have dried out.

Had a mate have a look at this today......

the grommet around the cable was intact so water is coming in from somewhere else

only thing in that area is the loom which he said felt a little damp. Didn’t have much time today so hopefully have another look in a week or two

Hi. There is a thread that started around early Dec regarding a water leek and pan roof. The drain holes were clear but there were cracks in the plastic surround that was causing the problem. It was fixed using a sealing liquid, might be worth looking into.

I am in exactly the same positon. 63 plate A6 Allroad with panorama roof. damp footwells and headlining both sides; definitely not blocked drains - have removed A pillar trim and sunvisor and grab handle and leak is not from hose onto cassette. Definitely seal.

so its time for Captain Tolleys Crack !

Any chance you or previous owner have had the windscreen replaced? Volvo 60 series were known for the screen to 'debond' itself from the car and let water in. Had to repair a V60 because of the screen issue and caused an huge issue.
Have you tried forcing water down the sunroof drains under high pressure?
Remove the scuttle panel and again wash the area under high pressure water.
The ecu box is under the scuttle panel and there is a cable entry into the car behind the box as well. Worth pulling the box out and checking. You can remove the drivers lower dash panel and drop the relay box and BCM module leaving wires attached and check for water running in. This is where the ecu box drops its loom into the car.
Remove the kick panel trim and again see if it helps locates a trail of water. There is a thick foam piece behind the trim so check behind there too

    hi Morski

thanks for your advice- I spend the morning doing exactly what you described in removing the scuttle, eco, fuse box and cleaning our all the debris on both side. Any water in that area does not cause any ingress

so the afternoon was spent removing the a pillar trim, sun visor and grab handles. And its very clear that the water is coming from the sunroof cassette seal - pouring water directly into the sunfoor drain compartment results in a visible water trail on top of the headling which then drips down the A pillar trim..... the hose connecting to the drain hole exit remains dry on both sides....
