Now the cold, damp weather has arrived it seems that the heater in both door mirrors no longer work. I've scoured the Audi handbook & the Haynes manual but cannot see any trace of which fuse these run off. Can anyone advise me please? Being both mirrors I assume something common like a fuse, but I'm also a little surprised the way these things normally work that both would run off the same fuse. The door mirrors retract OK but don't clear the mist & condensation away.
    Any pointers gratefully received thanks.

I'll state the obvious first... is the mirror switch in the central position? Sorry, i had to ask!

Hi Alan, nothing wrong with checking the basics! But yes, it is. From reading through some similar threads after I'd posted the most likely cause seems to be the mirrors themselves have gone. Probably separately over time & it's only with this damp weather I've actually noticed. It would still be interesting to know which fuse it is, but I've ordered a couple of mirrors via E Bay at a reasonable price.

Actually, what I said above isn't true. I did look on E Bay and found what seemed to be the right ones but after a google search I ordered them from a place that besides the name appears to be in Germany as I had more confidence that they would fit. My guess is that it is a broken element on the mirror or corroded connector. Ive had both happen on my B8 mirrors. If you have VCDS and cable it will tell you if there is a heater element error.
It is straightforward to replace the mirror. They are cheap enough (~40e) assuming that you dont have auto dim mirrors. They can be pretty expensive.

Thanks for that, metering the mirrors both were open circuit, and yes they are auto dimming! But as I now do relatively little night driving I've just replaced them with the standard ones, of course since then the weather has been reasonable enough that by the time I get in the car there is nothing to clear so as yet I haven't fully tested that they are heating OK, but see no reason they shouldn't. I'll try to get some auto dimmers from a breakers, but just as likely the heater element won't last long!
