I believe the offending seal on the classic E clutch failure is a single O-ring, but I could be wrong. There are a number of sleeved bushes in there too which hold pressure. If you've got no drive now, I doubt it's just the E clutch seal. Rather a complete loss of pressure.

I think with the time you have, first have a look for another GZW box (I think that was on your tag). You're in the UK, so parts like this are available for reasonable money. You can skip the coding process on the new box by simply removing the mechatronic from it, removing the TCU, and installing your current TCU in there. The main significance of the GZW code in this case is so that the final drive ratio matches your rear diff.

If you're keen to pull it out and open it up then go for it. You can buy the ZF repair manual online. However service and friction kits can add up very quickly I think.

Oh, I also think a manual swap will be rather expensive.

Hi Zit, thanks for replying again,

the best thing for these cars is to track over them with something heavy it will solve any issues, I should have stuck to my land cruiser instead of this audi rubbish

I'll try talking to a specialist for advice and a quote

I will have to remove the gearbox anyway and very likely take it to bits while looking for another gearbox

    Thanks Tom

    Hi Zit

Still not done anymore yet, is it worth getting the Mechatroinc tested before removing it

    Thanks

    Hey N19,

I'm pretty sure to test the mechatronic it has to come out. Just the mech, not the entire box. But I'm also not sure that it may just be delaying the inevitable. I would ask a local transmission specialist if they have, or they know anyone who has, the means to test the mechatronic. In all the threads I've read over the years, I haven't heard of complete loss of pressure being the mechatronic. It rather manifests itself in shift quality issues.

Any luck in sourcing a second hand box?
