Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and I have a noise that's driving me absolutely insane so I had to post here.

My Audi A4 B8 makes a rattling/whirring/knocking noise which usually starts when I drive and take the car out of gear to coast to a stop. Sometimes starts straight away when starting up the engine whilst still hot. It only goes away when I rev the engine. Ocasionally if I let it knock for 40+sec it goes dead silent. Pressing and depressing the clutch makes no difference to the noise. Usually when I down gear to a stop there's no noise only when taking out of gear and coasting to a stop. (Which I know is a no no) Any ideas?

Could be a dodgy Dual Mass Flywheel. How's the clutch feel? How many miles has your car clocked up?

you need to change the clutch and flywheel.vibration of the flywheel being out of balance,it happens as the clutch wears.

you need to get your car up on a ramp with the engine running and determine where the noise is coming from. If its coming from the bell housing chances are its the DMF. If its coming from the engine then you could have some big engine issues.
