As above, an due a cambekt change on our 2003 3.0 v6, was wondering if it’s something a competent DIYer could do, or leave it to the professionals?

and what are people paying these days at local indy’s To have it changed, along with new water pump with metal internals?

    Hi Blackpool

Am guessing its a pig of a job if no ones commented. Been quoted £700 at a local VAG specialist, wanted to know if it was reasonable or not. I know someone on here (it may of been Crasher) said not many places have all the correct tools for the V6 engine

If you checked out the link i did above it took somebody roughly 2 days to do it. £700 for the belt and water pump isnt over the top, does that include any tensioners ?

There are other parts that people choose to get done at the same time, There is the aux belt and tensioner, the coolant temperature sensor is also in that vicinity.

    Hi Blackpool

Sorry mate, completely missed your link the first time around, had a look now though and does look like a lot of work. Yeah, the £700 I was quoted locally included (I think) 3 or 4 tensioners or pulleys, new water pump with metal impeller, temp sensor etc. Guess its not too bad a price after all

Thanks Crasher, i knew someone had said previously on here about having the correct locking tools for the 30v engine and that not many did, and it must of been you. The more I read, the more inclined I am to go to the local specialist

This tool should do the trick, a normal garage more than likely wont have it but an independent VAG would

I can’t check on my iPad, as it does not have ELSA, which tools you need and my online parts look up system is being silly about my password, which engine code is it? This is the earlier 5v 2.4/2.7T/3.0 V6 cam bar and a MUST on these is being able to get the cam pulleys off of their taper seats without using a hammer as they crack, which is not good...
