    Daft question, I'm sure..!

I've a Q7 (4m) which has Audi OEM cross bars to affix a roof box. Having never owned one before I'm confused as to what to look out for regards roof box fixings. Are specific boxes made for specific models or, is there an industry standard? A scan of the internet hasn't really clarified things for me.

Also, I've a friend who has offered me the loan of his BMW box used on an X3 - would that work?

cheers in advance for any guidance offered

Hi coolhurst, 20 years ago I had a Halfords roof box which used U bolts through the bottom of the box with plates and nuts screwed on to keep it tight on the bars, this method was a total pain, I recently bought an Audi roof box which has claw type grips which go over the bars and has knobs inside the box which are turned to wind in the grips which are very easy to use. Your friend's BMW box might be the same type of fixings, probably worth having a look at the box and trying it on your bars. The Audi roof boxes are universal across the Audi range.
