    Hi all
I've got a 2006 A4 1.8t and can't get rid of the code permanently. I can clear it but engine light pops back up after a few days.
Code is catalyst system, bank 1efficiency below threshold. Sporadic.
I ran a test on the vag401 and it said the sensors were ok and the cat was the problem, I changed this and the sensors as I didn't fancy getting involved with it again! I've run cat cleaner through it too, no obvious split pipes either.
Code still here so any ideas?

    Cheers D

You could be barking at the code here

16804 (P0420)- Catalyst System; Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold

Have you replaced the lambda sensor after the cat or the one before?

Crasher I have done both. I guess a new one could be at fault though.

IF you have replaced the sensors with proper Bosch/genuine items AND there are no other fault codes, the ECU MAY be telling the truth and the cat is sick, but is is highly unusual with genuine cats so it would be a good idea to investigate if it is a genuine cat but it may be hard for you to tell. I could possibly tell if I saw some pictures.

    Hi
I've run tests today and the sensors are good but the new cat isn't. It was an after market cat so I'll get in touch with the supplier. I didn't want to change it again as it was a pig of a job!
