Guys. My abs light is on. I’ve completely overhauled the car inc new brakes all round inc pipes etc. One pipe all the way to the ABS unit. Had to replace two ABS sensors too. I’ve not used it on the road since. The MOT is next week, I assume with this light on it will fail. I have removed the cover on the ABS unit under the bonnet, seems to have a permanent feed but no power upon ignition? The relays don’t make a sound upon ignition either. VCDS cannot communicate with the ABS controller either. Can I assume the ABS ecu under the rear seat is dead? Any other ideas?
    Cheers.

I've learnt from what little meddling I've done with "modern" cars (to me that's anything 1980s onwards that has an ECU) to start simple first, and look at the more complicated/expensive things later; work your way up. My cabriolet had nightmare worse-than-limp-mode issues and not knowing better at the time I suspected the worst; after much research on forums and seeing others with similar symptoms I tried some repairs, starting with what appeared to the most common/cheapest solutions first. In the end it was a £50 lambda sensor that was giving me all of my grief - and initially I was worried I'd have to get a new ECU and send it to some expensive garage to get re-programmed.
Off-topic, but point being let's start at the simple end of the scale first.

So, you've overhauled all of your brakes and the ABS sensors. These read off of the stepped parts of the CV joints in a strobe light type of way - are the CV joints clean?
Another thing is, the light came on. You did some repairs. The light is still on. But perhaps (and I say perhaps as I'm not sure whether this will be the case) the computer doesn't recognise that you've fixed the problem and still thinks there is one; you may need to plug it in and erase the fault codes and see if comes on again. This was the case with my E36 BMW when I plugged it into the laptop to diagnose a fault it had; I likewise learnt from forum-trawling that before going too far, some of the codes that turned up initially may have been very old and redundant, but still in the car's 'memory'; so take an initial reading, make notes, erase the codes , turn the car on and go for a spin, plug the computer in and try again - any problems that arise will then be the present ones. Some of the codes as well as one of the warning lights (which had nothing to do with my problem) disappeared and didn't come back.

So first thing, make sure the CV joints are clean where the sensors read from; if the light persists then try plugging it in and resetting the car's memory.
