MMI Control wheel peeling

I've attached a pic of the control wheel in the center console. It's peeling and I'm wondering would it look better if I peeled it all off,is that easy to do,anyone done it?

I presume that it pops off might need a bit of prying cover the panel with a cloth to prevent marking.

With the large MMI button you can just peel the rest of the material off there is black plastic under the coating and it looks fine.
