    Hi to All,
Had not given a lot of thought to but why ?

When disconnecting a battery why remove the -Ve lead first and on reconnection connect the + first ?
My initial thinking was if the +Ve was disconnected first and then dropped into the earthed engine bay, bad things would happen, but the +Ve battery post would be isolated at this time.

Possibly about to pull the trigger on the 2019 180Kw GTI. This requires ( Australia ) 98 octane fuel. Mark 6 was 95 octane and mark 7.5 was 98 octane.
As 98 is about 7 cents dearer a litre then 95 at $1.50 a litre ( sorry I thought when we changed you did too ), on a full tank of 55 litres and 10 kilometres to the litre, projected at 550 kilometres to the tank; is it reasonable to assume the the 98 octane would provide the extra 5% in travel kilometres or is the 98 only required because of the higher power engine design.

Just some random thoughts in my vintage years.

    Regards
    John

You remove the negative cable first then reconnect it last because depending where the battery is located if you remove positive first your spanner could touch an earth and flash.

    Thank you Keithuk,
Certainly sensible, I was thinking more of dropping the lead. One question answered.
