Hi. Never used a forum to ask anything before so if I break any norms, please forgive me.

I left my house this morning and after a short journey noticed that the car hadn't turned the engine off at any stops in the traffic. Didn't think too much of it at the time. A short while later I noticed that the indicators were not indicating either. Panicked - pulled over - and begun to check everything over. Hazards worked, head lights, fogs, brake lights etc etc. just no indicators. I turned off the ignition naively assuming it would sort this problem out, but it didn't. That's when I noticed the message about the start/stop system malfunctioning. Using arms signals , I got to where I was going then spent some time really looking over the car. Literally everything works except:

    Start-stop system
The rear parcel shelf no longer rises when the boot opens
The alarm will lock the doors but not arm
You can lock yourself in the car with the remote

The AA came out and tested everything with a laptop. No errors came up. When the AA man used the laptop to control the car he was able to remotely turn on and off each indicator. He was also able to see that the indicator was sending a signal to tell the car's "computer" to turn them on, but they didn't come on. He said he'd never come across this before and advised me to take the car to Audi.

My car is a 2013 A6 C7 GG S line Quattro 3.0 Diesel. No extras above the standard model.

Worried and stumped and don't particularly want to let Audi loose on it at £X00s per hour. Anyone ever come across anything like this before?

Many thanks for any help - I'd like to sleep well tonight, but fear I won't be!

Sounds like a faulty battery, modern cars are extremely sensitive to low voltages and the stop/start shutting off is becoming a common indicator. The annoying point is modern starter motors will crank over on a low battery as if nothing is wrong which confuses people.

As he says, lus, don't panic, it can all be fixed. Sounds like a dud battery to me.

Thank you so much for your help - some peace of mind. After the AA found nothing I began to think something far more fundamental must be going wrong.

PS Crasher I won’t be getting a diesel next time. Love this 3.0l but...

Your problem has nothing to do with it being a diesel or petrol.
Im not sure, but maybe petrol would have cheaper battery as AGM type for yours is pricey compered with older cars.
Buying decent size car with decent size petrol engine is nonsense as you will spend way more on fuel with less performance compered to diesel.
If you really believe EURO 6 and up diesels will not be allowed to drive somewhere, then just stop dreaming of it, its just not going to happen for long long time.

Just for info had the battery tested today - result was its in "good" condition. So, left with no left/right indicators, car will lock but not alarm, no start/stop system and the boot parcel shelf won't lift. Also think the steering wheel locks no more. Weird that the AA man could get everything to work remotely with his laptop. Everything else works perfectly. Bizarre symptoms.

Taking it to a local place tomorrow hopefully.

Hi Renata. 5 years old, and using “the latest Bosch testing equipment” - but it was at a Kwik fit because that’s all that was open today.
