i have a x regd audi a2 1.4 se 41k miles, the abs warning light is permanently on and the power steering light also, does not seem to be a problem with the car. the garage says it is either a sensor on the steering that requires replacing £40 + fitting or most probably it could be the power steering rack £600 + fitting, they are unsure what the the correct solution is
This information as been taken from the diagnostic codes, has anybody else encountered this problem, and if so what was the remedy

Hello and welcome. We need those codes posting to be of more help. You say there isn't a problem with the car but is the steering heavy? The racks aren’t always the fault in fact it is rare but the pumps are always going faulty. Has the car taken a knock to the left front corner that you know of?

That is a problem with the steering angle sensor, has the steering wheel been off or the tracking adjusted?

Thats exactly what the garage said, they have spoken with the Audi dealership, who said they could replace the steering angle sensor, but in their experience this does not always work and they have had also to replace the power steering rack, how does this all relate to the non functioning of the ABS.
I have owned the car for over 2 years and have never had the steering wheel off or the tracking done
The cost of the repair will be around £1000 with parts

First of all I would ask them to reset the steering angle sensor which is done by connecting a suitable diagnostic computer and then start the engine, turn the steering one turn to the right and one turn to the left. Drive a short distance in a straight line on a level surface at a speed not higher than 15 mph. If the steering wheel is straight during the test drive then stop the vehicle with the wheels pointed straight ahead. The steering wheel must not be moved again until after the reset procedure is completed. With the engine still running, Select 03 ABS brakes, then Login 11 and enter the code 40168, click “Do It!” and exit Login 11. Enter Basic Settings 04, group 060 and click “Go!”. This will store the zero (centred) position of the steering wheel. There should be a displayed message that reads: "Steer. angle sender compens OK". Click “Done, Go Back” and try it.

Crasher: please help...or anyone else. My wife was hit on last friday and idiot ran away. I have tried fixing and replacing the damaged steering rack as the front wheel steering rod ends had bent. I replaced with a second one and even bought new steering rods to make sure. the steering is worse..... In my attempt its brought all the lights ON. ABS etc. The steering is now going crazy....heavy light heavy light making it very difficult to drive. I have then gon and replaced the steering rack still no problem. The electrick pum keeps making a noise so i presume it is working. I cant seem to figure the exact centre of the steeing wheel as i thot it was steering column sensor that had gone as Sensor was saying CODE 85. does anyone know how i can resolve this. Regards

Hello Me Bee. It sounds like you have some sort of diagnostic equipment, what is it and can it do Measuring Blocks and Basic Settings? Which year and engine code is the A2? It is very important I know which exact model year it is, there were some major changes.
Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.
