    Hi Everyone,

I have a 2003 Alhambra 1.9tdi auto with the climate control.

Recently the wife said that the front heater fan/blower was not working and that the fan speed display on the climate control panel was behaving strange. I checked and neither the front or rear cabin blowers were working. I replaced the control console control unit with another from ebay and the same problem persisted. I have since discovered that fuse 19 (5A) had blown and this fuse looks to be associated with 7 other circuits around the car, presumably on the control side of relays etc as it is only 5 amp.

On this model of Alhambra the 7 associated circuits for fuse 19 seem to be:
    Electric Switchboard (whatever this is)
    Number plate light
    Air Con
    Windscreen Washers
Heating (what ever this refers to)
    Heated front windscreen
    Reversing light

As the reversing light has never worked since we had the car I have puled fuse 62 (20A) which seems to be the dedicated fuse for it, and as the heated windscreen has not worked since the screen was changed by Autoglass I also pulled 51 which is the load fuse for the front wind screen. As the rear number plate lamps were still OK I have left fuse 53 in place and same for the windscreen washers.

I'm not sure what the Heating circuit is actually doing, or the Electric switchboard, so left these in.

On replacing fuse 19 (5A), low and behold the front and rear blowers started working normally with the LCD display resounding as it should - Result..!

I zipped it all back up and drove up the road only for the fuse to blow again after 3 - 4 mins. So something seems to be taking it out. It seemed to occur when going over a bump - may have been a coincidence but could that also indicate a loom fault, shorting to ground - maybe tailgate related??

Does anyone out there have any clues as to where I should look. I'm not sure if it is the actual aircon circuits popping the fuse or one of the others hung on fuse 19.

I think I have eliminated the heated front screen and the reversing light by pulling the individual load fuses but not sure where to go from here.

    Appreciate any help.

    Thanks

    Ed

As a Post Script to the longer post - I decided to measure the current draw through fuse 19 and when all is normal and settled down it is about 360mA, with dash fans all working as should.

Interestingly, I put a new 5A fuse back in position 19 and took the car for a drive and twice now it has blown as I have driven over a pot hole or cats eyes which resulted in excessive vibration through the car. So, I'm beginning to think I have a loom wire chafing or flashing to ground somewhere - might be coincidence but twice this has happened now.

Does any one have a drawing or schematic which covers the wiring for what fuse 19 is feeding? I checked my mates old Haynes which only goes up to year 2000 and fuse 19 is feeding an instrumentation unit so it looks like sensors around the car, but I can't be sure this is the same for a 2003 TDi SE (auto).

    HEEEEEEEELLLP..

I'd appreciate and ideas you might have and/or any schematics so I can trace wiring.

    Thanks
    Ed
