I have MMI 2G with a 6 CD changer in centre console. This has only ever been used for a phone mount (kind that slots in CD slot) all my music is on a USB stick.

How much grief would*it be to just totally remove it?

Wanting to put in wireless charging and original idea was to replace ash tray with a 3d printed base with wireless charger built in, but I use phone for longer journeys as google maps traffic is much better than the built in nav so wouldn't be ideal position.

So new idea is replace CD changer with a blanking plate and phone mount. Guessing it would need to be removed using VCDS but not sure on wiring / fibre complications (e.g. are things looping through the changer or can it just be unplugged?)

Just buy and isolate cd charger with optical loop and untick from install list, removing fuse is up to you.
