Is anyone able to confirm at what mileage you should change the auto oil and filter on the BiTdi. I have a feeling it was 40k but not sure. This is the 8 speed Tiptronic not DSG or CVT

I priced the bits at TPS today. 9 litres of ATF £333 and the filter £150. Plus vat. Ouch. Is it me or does that seem excessive?

I bought some filters there and had to ask for a discount too. Not the great price or service I remember from previous visits.

Audi says its filled for life, but that's if your life is 200 000 miles.
ZF (manufacturer of your gearbox) not clear on when to change fluid, but probably around 60 000 miles would be fine.
At least at that coasts wouldn't do it more often.
40 000 miles is for S-tronics.
Multitronic is also filled for ''life'', but well - it usually dies before oil is bad anyways.

I’m just coming up on 40k Miles and tow a caravan so maybe I’ll look at 50-55k to be on the safe side. If it’s sealed for life (nonsense imho) I wonder why they do a filter from stock?

Because Its Audi and other manufacturer that use this gearbox (they are a lot) say oil is good for life, to make their car more appealing for costumer, as there is less maintenance.
But thing is they don't care about reliability after its way out of warranty like 150 000 miles or so.
ZF makes all parts necessary to do a good maintenance as they want their product to last long.
Its all about marketing not good engineering this time....
Filter is the whole pan in this case.

In picture it looks like filter is separate, but I think you cant change filter without changing pan itself without some aftermarket kit

It look identical to the parts diagram I saw on the TPS computer yesterday Renars although the pic show 7 litres of ATF and the parts guy told me Is was a 9 litre capacity

@ renard, the part number is from the ZF parts finder,

I think the 9 litre capacity is for a dry box and torque converter, I have done this on a 7 series 6 speed, the filter and the sump where combined, and was such in the picture of the parts I used.

I will post the out come when I get the service done, but that is a couple of weeks away

Be careful doing this yourself.

I agree with 60 - 70K depending on your usage (towing etc.). ZF say 80 - 120Km depending on usage - see https://www.zf.com/global/media/medi...P_50130_EN.pdf

Note the procedures around running the engine at specific temperatures... It is not just a drain / change filters / fill process.
