    I have a 2006 Passat B6

    170 bhp BMR engine code

It has 223,000 miles on the clock

For the last 5 years I have been running it on a diesel/waste veg oil mix, approx. 80,000 miles in that time.
Service the car, change oil approx. every 6000 miles.

    Summer mix 50/50 diesel/veg oil
    Winter 90/10

Loads of engine lights came on last Saturday.

CEL, flashing coil, DPF. Limp mode limited to 3000 rpm

Read the codes with dongle VAG COM, though bought on ebay 10 years ago so not licensed.

The DPF was replaced last year with a new one and has only done 15,000 miles or so.

    Codes as follows:

So, replaced all glow plugs as they were the original ones when the car was new. Replaced with NGK's

Took off anti-shudder valve and cleaned.
Took off EGR and cleaned. Checked the mechanism which works fine.
Changed the exhaust pressure sensor G450 and re-set with VAG COM.

Only codes now are the DPF particle trap below efficiency. Can't get out of limp mode.
Have tried to force a regen on the move (wife loves me!) but the DPF won't regen.
Have never done a stationary regen but would it work?

    Any suggestions?

I think I should go to a VW specialist to get this done.
Any recommendations in the Sheffield area?
I know Crasher is in Nottingham and have gone to him before but I don't really fancy going on the motorway in limp mode , 20 mph up a gradient!

Well, maybe your veg oil did its job and killed it quickly.
If you want to use something else than regular fuel its DPF off time.

    Thanks for your reply.
Fairly certain it's not the veg oil.
No issues with starting, EGR valve cleanish, after 223,000 miles I was expecting it to be really clogged but was pleastly surprised.

The original DPF was replaced on 205,000 miles so lasted a lot longer than other DPF's on this forum.

Therefore doubt it was veg oil.
Also, I didn't have to change the fuel filter as frequently . Last one lasted about 30,000 miles

Was DPF replaced with OEM part or aftermarket unit ?
At this point there is still no any good aftermarket DPF that wouldn't be problem.

Forced a regen on it last night, went 60 miles but it wouldn't regen.

Temp inside DPF only rose to about 380/400 Celcius

Other temps weren't even close to 700 Celcius.

Got home and had to top up oil as the light came on.
    Maybe turbo seal is leaking.

Took off inlet manifold, very dirty, but noticed that oil was crossing over the gasket into the air inlet so maybe that caused it to lose oil. Has been for about a year now. Thought it was tandum pump so had changed that.

Will take off turbo tomorrow. Never done one before. Maybe it needs a new cassette?

    …....or maybe I need a new car!

Probably DPF got clogged because car is burning so much oil.
    Or its simply aftermarket crap.
I know what I would do with DPF in your place
I in process and a bit extra money would have some fun and go for 200 hp

Clogged with oil is my guess.
DPF was replaced by VW in Chesterfield last year, not cheap.

Thought about getting rid of DPF years ago but worried not good for environment. But veg oil has far fewer pollutants anyway so maybe that would off set the environment issue?
Would fail MOT if removed (probably) if they spotted removal.

well, took EGR off again and cleaned it.
Took loads of stuff off, battery tray, air box, etc all the way around to the turbo.

Thought I would take the turbo ff and have it reconditioned.
Couldn't get the exhaust manifold off, would have to take the DPF filter off but realised it was a job too far....

Didn't want to take the drive shafts off......don't know how...…

Put it all back together and car now working but all the engine lights still on., coil light, check engine light, DPF light,

Did change the glow plugs and put new rocker seal on, as well as inlet manifold seal, EGR seal etc.....

Have bought JML dpf cleaner to use down the pressure pipe when it arrives from Amazon.

Next job is to get it to a specialist to take off and recondition the turbo...…………………...CRASHER, you're up

How new is your battery? The outside temperature reading is -30° and I have seen that recently on my Mrs Suzuki which started to run poorly and not start. Her problem was a failing lift pump in the tank and a weak battery to go with it. I replaced the lift pump which cured the no starting but it still laboured a little until the new battery was fitted. As soon as that went on all of her electrical faults stored were cleared and did not come back. Car is back to it's nippy self now with loads more oomph. Perhaps your lift pump in the tank is dying as it is not designed to pump veg oil !! Sure the car can run on it but some parts will certainly not handle the transportation of veg oil as well as they do with Derv. Often a weak battery throws up codes simply because the ECU detects weak voltages in various modules and Passats are known to be susceptible to this.
