Hi I know it technically not a golf its a 2007 vw caddy with the BLS engine which i think is in a golf

the problem I am having is after just a small drive of only about 10 miles the engine is going through 1.5 litres of coolant, now there is no water leaking from anywhere or any creamy stuff on the oil filler cap, I have had a sniff test done twice and its showing all is fine with combustion gasses in the coolant, but i have noticed there is quite a bit of smoke when accelerating wispy stuff like water is getting chucked through the exhaust. that is the only tell tale sign I have and it drives perfect. oh and heater matrix is fine also.
somebody has suggested it could be the EGR cooler? would that leak or fire it through the exhaust?
I am at my wits end and as I am a self employed valeter i need the van to be reliable,
would it be worth putting some steel seal in? or if its the egr cooler could i just remove/bypass this?

Thank you for taking the time to read this....
