Audi A6 C6 allroad Glove box USB Port

Hi All I have an Audi A6 C6 Allroad 2.7 Tdi 2007.
In the glovebox there is USB on the end of a wire. i formatted a memory stick to Fat32 and stuck a few Mp3 Songs on it and when i choose the source and choose the Audi music interface I am geting an error message which says.

NOTE
An error occurred
while the software was being updated
please try again.

Does anyone know if this lead in the glove box can be used for sticking a USB drive in or is it for something else.

Yes, I’m using USB stick for mp3 playback but i had to update MMI to latest firmware

You can buy the discs from Amazon for about £20. I did this (then cheekily returned them no quarms once id done)

Cheers matey. I may be wrong but after a bit of research I was under the impression that the Mmi update was for the sat navigation system I’m not only everything is working fine.
