I bought a golf from auction that was grade 4 and was not BCA assured. After leaving the auction the cars been making a grinding/crunching sound between gear 3-6, also it jerks in 2nd gear when it goes above certain revs but doesn't slip into neutral. Could someone please provide me with any info that can lead to a solution please. It has 91.4k on clock and is a 57 plate.

This should be a BLF code engine, which gearbox code is quoted on the data sticker, HBM or JHY? It would be easier if you private message me the cars reg number.

Your engine code is BLF as I expected and the gearbox code is JHY which is stamped on the box and printed on the cars two data stickers, one on the boot floor and the other in the front cover of the service book. A JHY box is the same as an HBM by changing the release sleeve 02T 1241 170 C and you will find these boxes in the 2004>2008 A3 as well as the Golf.
