This Alhambra has been off the road for a couple of years I've been doing a few jobs on it odd bits of rust & general tidy up 180,000 miles on the clock still 'starts on the button' (yes I know it's a key start!) but now I can't engage gears as the clutch won't release. Difficult to test if slave or master cylinder is working as it is a concentric unit inside the bell housing (any ideas of how to test) Alternative is plate stuck to flywheel by rust it has resisted all attempts to free it so far. That includes wedging the pedal down for a few weeks no luck. Having read the manual it is a nightmare job for DIY so I guess it is a Garage Job just looks expensive, special tools etc.I've got a bit more welding & a replacement Brake front disc to do. then it will be ready for MOT. Any thoughts have I missed something?

I had a similar problem with my Hillman Minx many years ago as I was away at work a lot. I used to jack up one drive wheel and start it in gear so the wheel was spinning. I then jabbed the brake and it unstuck. This may be dangerous though !!!!

If the pedal returns the release bearing and the pressure plate is working so the friction plate would be stuck to either the flywheel or pressure plate, box out and new clutch, flywheel and release bearing.

Yes the pedal 'feels' similar to my other Alhambra & returns OK so I think you are right. It will be time to 'bite the bullet'! I must just finish the welding & fit the other Front disc. Thanks for the advice Crasher.

I don’t mind too much deleting the DMF on a petrol engine, I am building a Golf 2 with. VR6 and I have converted it to the same 02M box and have used a Sachs Sporting single mass but I know it will make the gearbox chatter at idle.
