    Hi

I have a question about my Audi A3 Tdi 170 S Line 58 plate which has a 6 Speed S Tronic gearbox, basically whenever I place it in reverse gear it gets in after 2.3-3 seconds. I find that strange as I have owned A3 6 Speed

S-tronic cars in the past. I am just worried that this might be an indicator for problems to come. I checked with the previous owner and the Gearbox oil was changed last year a few thousand miles ago. My car has done

Has anyone else had or is having similar issues. There are no faults codes. Any suggestions?

Just an update. I was parking my car and placed it into reverse gear - there was a 3 second delay or so but then it would not get into reverse. The front instrumental panel which shows the gear starting flashing. I switched the car off and on again and then I managed to select reverse gear and park the car up. After a few hours I drove the car and while driving the engine management light came on - no issues with driving the car. ' I checked with a OBD2 Code reader and it stated Fault code P2711 Powertrain - unexpected mechanical gear disengagement - I cleared the fault code and the engine light did not turn on again.

I am not sure if a proper gearbox oil change was done last year - it says it has been done - but I will need to look into that further. Could the gearbox oil be a cause of the issue? What I am concerned about is if it is delaying changing into reverse gear but all the other gears are okay. Is this going to be a major gearbox issue?

Do you have a gearbox specialist in your area? If so I would try them. The dealers wont get involved apart from throwing expensive parts at it.

    19143 (P2711) - Unexpected / Implausible Mechanical Gear Disengagement: No Signal/Communication

I have seen this a lot on the DSG, it is a DSG no matter the daft name Audi give it, and it can be either Mechatronic failure or a worn clutch pack so VAG dealers always suggest a new full box at £3600 plus VAT plus fitting and more than likely it is why the car was sold on. The recent removal of previous owners data from the V5C under the GDPR regulations is a boon for people wanting to unload a dodgy car.
