I personally had one on a well cared for customers car and know off other instances; where the 2L CR has snapped its crank and cracked the block doing so but so far that is the only internal failure I know of, cam belt tensioner failure is rearing it’s ugly head again, are people neglecting to change the stud or using kits without it?

I guess when people purchase the kit they expect all they need to change to already be there. Also what is it about Skoda's that makes them so reliable? I know by the time they get the tech from VW it's refined but they still use VW engines, parts etc

The CAYC engine itself seems strong apart from a couple where we have seen oil pressure problems on very high mileage taxi's, one was the drive belt (yes it is Belt In Oil or BIO as it is known) and one was a badly worn crank due to huge miles and no oil changes. What IS a problem are the ancillaries, DMF's rattle as usual, DPF's block as usual, injectors fail and are £2.5K a set fitted, turbo actuator diaphragm failure is common, the EGR valves are a joke, we did two last week whilst I was on holiday and the high pressure fuel pump is VERY sensitive to running dry which is is nearly £2k job as they are timing belt driven, they fill the system with metal fillings which take some cleaning out and the pump is £1328.26 EXCHANGE! Add to this the emissions recall fiasco making them run like a sick pig and it makes it an engine that is great for the garage industry and crap for the owner!
