    Hi there
Is there anyone here in Central (ish) Scotland (Stirling, Clacks, Lothian or eastern Fife would be ideal) who has access to VAG-COM (VCDS) and would be willing to help me to try to reset the steering angle sensor on my Audi A3 (2002)?
I could offer beer or similar in return...
    Thanks
    Jeroen

Have you had tracking done resently ??? as if it not done corectly and the steering wheel is out of center by more than 4-5ish degrees it will give you problems with steering angle sensor -just had same prob with a golf same year 4wheel tracking needed to put it right, then the warning light will clear itself !!!

    Hi, thanks for the reply!

It's a slightly long story. I actually had the steering rack replaced by an indy garage with a reconditioned unit. It was one that I sourced myself, but they did the fitting for me. They said they'd tried all they could to reset the steering angle sensor but they couldn't get the warning or stop the ESP light to come on again after a few mins worth of driving. They said that although the rack technically fitted, it might be that its still slightly the wrong unit (differences between "sport" and non sport versions??) but I am not convinced.
Although I trust the garage I'm not sure how good they are on the whole VAG codes thing (definitely not VAG specialists).

Although I don't think the tracking was done since the rack was replaced, the steering wheel seems straight with the wheels, and the car doesn't pull left or right at all.

Anyway, I've had a look with the freeware VCDS version I have, and the error code I get is "G85: implausible signal". Although I can clear the code, as above it just comes back after a minute or so of driving. I can't do the reset procedure described here as I don't have the paid-for version.

    Thanks for an advice!
    J

Far as I know the only differences between "sport" and non sport is sport is bit quicker turning lock to lock. You should be able to find a mamber near you-there is a spot on here where members list there local and have vagcom and are up for helping folke for beer tokens !!!

Thanks - that's what I thought re. the different racks.
I will check again what the measured steering angle is according to VCDS but I'm pretty sure its nowhere near zero with the wheel straight ahead, which does suggest there's something badly wrong or well out of calibration... Perhaps it is worth getting the tracking done again as you suggest...

Thanks also for the pointer to this VCDS section - I'll have a go.
