Grab a coffee for a little history of my issue:

    Audi A5 2010, 2.0L TDI

A mate borrowed my car, I was in the passenger side. He was going 30-40MPH in 4th gear. He dropped down in first gear while he rides the clutch to bring the car to slow down. The car screamed as it should. Car was running very low on diesel, the light was on for low fuel. We parked up and I decided to drive. When car started it was shaking very bad. I thought I really needed to fill up so I did. Car still shakes at idle.

Done some search and I bought a bluetooth device to pull some codes. One was Engine - 05175. Googled has led me to a fuel pump pressure regulator. I head to ebay to purchase one for £49.99. Only two screws to change so I replaced the old with new. Started car, car was running for couple seconds then shuts off. Ok..... tried starting again and same issue (never started this time, only trying to start). I put back the old and same issue: wont turn over/start.

I read on here to turn the car on (not start) for few times. That never worked. Another google search said something about trapped air. Cool. I went and bought Bradex Easy Start and sprayed some into the intake. Car started but immediately shuts off. I cant be trying else I'll kill my battery. Is there still trapped air? How to get rid?

Before replacing, and although the car shakes at idle, the car could still drive (once driving it wont shake).

I tried myself because a garage quoted me £590. £49.99 compared to £590 --- yeah Im not stupid.

It is quite easy to damage the high pressure fuel pump by running so low on fuel it pulls air. If that code is 005175 then to me that is

17845 (P1437) Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve / solenoid, bank 2 - short to positive

If you open the fuel circuit on a Common Rail you MUST bleed it before trying to start.

Which part did you replace? The regulator on the end of the rail 057 130 764 H?

Many thanks! Do I need to purchase a scan tool (VCDS) to use its bleeding software or, can it be done manually? I dont wanna mess this car up.

I could be done manually but it would mean getting at the fuel pump relay so through the diagnostic socket with something like VCDS is easier but for how much a proper cable costs it may be better to ask a local specialist to come out and do it for you.

Sorry. Just seen this part. I replaced the fuel pressure sensor valve:

I'll get a professional come out and sort it out. Thanks

The sensor is £60 from an Audi dealer but the sensor and regulator are screwed into the fuel rail. What did you replace?

Sorry. I may not know the correct naming, but here's the actual picture I took just now:

Image shows the original one; I put back the original.

As in your title, which I had misread, that is the pump pressure regulator not the rail pressure regulator, when I am back at work tomorrow I can have a look to see why VAG won’t sell this part, only a complete pump which is why part number 03L130851AX and £1024.66 EXCHANGE and find out what it’s SDC (Service Diagnose Code) is plus dig deeper into that fault code before I ask you to get the codes read again on some equipment I trust.

But the reason why it wont start because it needs bleeding, right?
