    Hello,
    I have a 2010 2.0TFSI with a blown head gasket. I haven't removed the head yet but I reckon the head will be cracked as it's putting a lot of water into the combustion chamber.
    Anyone got any advice on what to do if the head is cracked- where could I find a replacement head or can the old one be repaired?

    I’d wait until the head is off to see if its cracked. I’d be surprised. Blown head gasket is enough to fill the cylinders with water.

    If its cracked then breakers I guess. If its warped then look to get it machined.

    Finally got a chance to take the head off today. It's warped but no sign of any cracks. Sending it to the engineering shop on Monday for pressure testing and skimming.
    Wondering whether I should replace the chain tensioner while I have the chance.I haven't removed the bottom cover yet but looking through the inspection hole it looks like
    it has the newer style tensioner,can anyone confirm this?Here is a pic;

    On a first generation EA888 you should replace the entire cam chain drive system as it likes to fall to bits.

    Ok thanks Crasher. Is there a decent aftermarket chain drive kit for these engines or should I buy genuine?

    PM sent thanks again.
    Left the head at the engineering shop yesterday.The guy isn't sure yet if it's repairable,he says that although it can be skimmed flat for the gasket there could still be problems with
    the camshaft bores.Have to ring him again tomorrow after he's had a proper look at it.

    It is a CDNC engine and a Generation II EA888, the car was built 17.03.2010, a type 8K2 069. the head cam bores should be OK but the inlet cam may be damaged where it runs inside the bearing saddle and the timing valve is a left hand thread if you haven't already removed it. You do have all the special tools for reassembly and timing don't you? Febi do a kit for the cam and a kit for the balances, I can't give you any prices as their look up system has changed and I have not put the new one on my PC yet. There are variations in the kits so the correct one needs to be identified.

    That's a big help thanks. I have the special tools and the timing valve is removed. I will have a look at the inlet cam again for signs of damage.
