Has my Car got a factory fitted Alarm !

Hi

When I manualy lock my ( central locking ) car , the lock pin that goes down when you lock a car , has a red flashing light on it on the drivers side , what is it for ! .

ps: My model was not supplied with remote locking features .

Some do, some don’t. The flashing light means it is deadlocked.

The door lock units have a function inside which locks the locks, eeerrrr, well locked! It means that unless the central inconvenience system (on a Passat 3B it's an incontinence system as it usually sits in water) sends a command to the lock you can't open the doors even from the inside, they are "deadlocked", a bit like the UK and the EU.....

Quite a few people, especially childen and babies have died due to heat exhaustion and dehydration after being trapped in vehicles fitted with this clever device.

My young nephew was trapped in my son's VW Transporter because he had inadvertently "safe" locked it. My son didn't even know about it, as he bought the van second hand, and there was no handbook..

I returned to the van first; my nephew was pretty agitated, and I considered smashing a window with a rock.

Fortunately it had sliding windows, which were not locked (which makes the safe locking idea even more ludicrous), so I was able to help him out through one of them.

Some clever devices fitted to cars these days just have not been thought through properly.

A friend of mine bought a new Octavia L&K in 2002, on a hot summers day he parked up and left the mrs in the car and walked off, locking the car with the remote and leaving his phone in the car. Because he is as deaf as a post, he could not hear the cars alarm going off or the fact that his wife could not get out of the car as it was deadlocked and the alarm was going off because she was moving around plus she could not ring him to say oi you knob I am dying of heat exhaustion in here.... She is not a woman known to suffer idiots lightly is Juliet

, she scares me! He got me to order a new remote sans key, program it in and leave it in the glovebox...
