Hi chaps, I recently managed to get a 1998 A4 Avant 1.8 20v and she does have an actuator for operating variable intake manifold. What surprised me is the fact, that intake manifold is aluminium one (like this: https://www.247spares.co.uk/res/imag...91961/8253.jpg), not the plastic one. I know, there were even some early versions without variable intake manifold.

My question is: Are there any significant differences between variable plastic and variable aluminum intake manifolds (like in torque curve, durability etc.)?

    Thx ...

I donīt know the diameter of plastic one, so I can not compare them. But I will still try to measure the diameter. I discovered it on ebay, look - INLET MANIFOLD Switch Intake Manifold VW/Audi 1,8 ADR Motor 058133213 | eBay

Looks like a similar diameter to the ATW/AWM intake runners. I like the design, that's pretty cool looking
