    I have a cherished year 2000 V5 2.3 estate 114k miles.

It has developed a misfire and lost a substantial amount of power.

Much £ already spent on investigation, testing by reputable workshop including new coil igniter pack but unfortunately the ‘misfire / no power’ issue persists

WORK CARRIED OUT | WORKSHOP APPRAISAL
    Long Life service.
Tested spark plugs and checked coil packs, all ok.
Removed, cleaned and adapted throttle body.
    Checked engine compression, all good.
Supplied and fitted new coil igniter pack as required.

    FAULT CODES
I’ll have to check with Deutchtek (workshop) on which codes showed up.
No warning lights visible on dash now.

    TEMPORARY FIX
Once the new coil igniter pack was fitted there was a notable reduction to the misfire, the power returned and only the slightest hesitation notable in the engine.

    BODYSHOP | FLAT BATTERY JUMP
When at Bodyshop (dents removed) battery ran flat which was jumped with a pack.
Unfortunately the misfire and loss of power returned worse than ever !

    MISSFIRE | CONDITIONS
On Start Up. Starts perfectly, unfortunately idles like a Harley Davidson.
    Misfires within 5 – 10 mins driving.
    Misfires under load.
    Overtaking now not possible.

Has anyone experience of this ?

I’d be very grateful to receive news of a solution.

    Thanks for your consideration.

    James.

Really you need the exact fault codes.

Another thing to check would be the cam position sensor which will affect ignition timing etc. They do fail. Have you also renewed the HT Leads?

Thanks for the update, much appreciated.

This week the car's scheduled for a return to Deutchtek - http://www.deutschtek.co.uk
I’ll be sharing the headlines you’ve listed and discussing your recommendations before agreeing next steps.

Understandably HT leads are no longer genuine parts so I’ll have to purchase aftermarket, aside from Euro Car Parts would you have a recommended source ?

    Thanks for your consideration.

    James.

I can’t make out if you have replaced the coil pack and amplifier or just the coil pack and where did the coil pack come from as there are some terrible reproduction units around and genuine are no longer available and the same goes for the amplifier.

Apologies for delayed reply, thanks for the update.

The breakdown from the most recent visit to the workshop lists the 1 x coil igniter pack. There is no listing of an amplifier.

When calling to approve the coil pack expense (£200) Deutchtek were aware of substandard aftermarket coil packs and confirmed they'd located the best option available.
Can't recall the manufacturer. I'll ask and update you.
