    Hi,

Trying to fix a problem on my dads 2004 Golf 1.6 FSI. He had a flat battery, everything checked out on the charge side, but there was a parasitic drain I traced to the fuel pump module circuit. You could hear it run with ignition off. Remove 15A blue fuse (F27?) and pump stopped. So he has been using it like that - fuse in, drive, stop, fuse out. Not healthy.

I tested the fuel pump and 1ohm, but I do not know what or how to test for a ground or fault - any suggestions on how to check the module - it has no heat or burn marks and I understand that is when they fail. But I wonder if that is the problem.

He did say he reversed into/over something back nearside - that was the day it happened, but I cannot see any marks underneath or what it could have even pushed to cause a ground.

EML came on yesterday and a scan showed P0091 which cleared ok and I assume was linked. I need to find the code we got for the fuel pump to ground and post as he sent me an email with partial scan.

Also have the interior lights go, code 00059 terminal 30 (interior lights) - 012, electrical fault in circuit - but the 7.5A fuse is fine.

I now have the code - 01259 - Fuel Pump Relay (J17) 009 - Open or Short to Ground

So, fuel pump is off when fuse is out. But works when I take both 449 relays out. Does that mean there is a wiring fault to ground/live and not the relays?

Any advice on how to test would be great, electrics not my strong point

I would say it is the highly unreliable and multiply revised fuel pump control unit, VW part number 1K0 906 093 J and costs £116.62

Thanks Crasher - I need to get my notifications updated as I missed this. I have ordered one.

Now I need to work out what is happening with the interior lights. The auto electrician said it might be the main control unit! deep joy.
