Ive been quoted 650 +vat to prepare and respray a little bit of surface rust on top of rear wheel arch , looks like and old scuff thats been left too long.
They have quoted for removal of quarter panel and a door blend.
Surely thats way too much, or am i just out of touch?
    Any advice much appreciatedaudi rust.jpg

For a quality job that is about right and I would expect to have to blend the rear bumper as well, although they never matched from new. I can't see it being actual removal of the 3/4 panel as the panel is £300 on its own and it is a massive job. I can't make out from that picture if it is from the inside, it it is the damage needs to be cut out, a repair section fabricated, welded in, linished, leaded and painted and that is easily £650 if not more. If it is from behind, tapping it back and using filler won't last a year before it shows again.

This is the sort of repair required if you get rot all around and to get the panel you may well end up buying a full rear 3/4 to cut off the lip as I don't know of a repair panel for that. This is an aftermarket arch repair panel, cut right down, welded and linished before lead.

In the last decade the costs of bodywork materials have rocketed plus regulation has gone nuts over emissions, I imagine your dad liked cellulose for some jobs, try buying that now.... all you can use is water base which is supper delicate and then lacquer which if you inhale it, it kills you. Also, now body guys are getting paid a going rate for what they do rather than being paid no better than a house painter, perfect paint is what people expect and it is not easy.
