I don't know about the larger radiators etc, but I retro fitted a Westfalia detachable bar to my 2012 C7 in 2014. It has since towed a 1500kg caravan to Croatia 3 times and the very south of Italy and in some high temperatures, 35C plus. I have not once seen the water temp gauge above 90C.

How did you get on with this as I am planning to fit (or have fitted) a Towbar to my 2014 BiTDi. From looking at information on this forum it seems that unless I have VCDS its easier to have someone else fit it for me. Some prices are extortionate! Best price I have found so far is just over £600 fitted at my house. I have fitted Towbars to my previous cars but they just used universal electric kits. As per usual DIY jobs on newer cars need coding that costs lots of money!

In 2014 I fitted a Westfalia detachable tow bar to my C7 saloon.

From P. F. Jones in Manchester the bar and dedicated Westfalia 13 pin electrical kit cost £356. The bar is relatively easy to fit with 4 easy access bolts holding it in place, however removing the bumper may take more time. I laid all the wiring in place, without making any connections.

Towone Trailers in Hull completed the wiring connections in the car and then did the coding and charged me £40.

Thanks, that’s helpful information. Hull is not too far from me.

I’m also planning to fit a swivelling towbar to my 2015 A6 C7 3.0 avant Quattro. I’ve delved into the boot space but I’m stuck at the plastic surround that the spare wheel cover sits into, and thus cannot access the chassis rails that hold the aluminium bumper bar in place, and the associated 4 bolts. Does anyone know how to access and remove these bolts, so I can slide out the bumper bar and then insert the towbar and the 4 bolts that hold the towbar in position.
Also does the towbar need to be powered to be able to retract, because mine doesn’t want to move on the workshop floor when I pull the release?
