    Hey guys,

Just after some help, my air con has been stuck on economy mode for a good few months now.

I suspected it may have had a leak a few years back but a recharge got it back up and running so it's been fine for a few years until recently.

I took it to ATS to get it recharged but They came back and said the Comoressor is not turning on after charging it.

My question is that could it be the G65 sensor? I've had the ecu read and it doesn't come up with a G65 error code. I have a fleabay special jobby so I'm not sure if maybe it's not capable of reading all the error codes or if it means sensor is fine before I move on to the compressor.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

The fact that the econ light is on shows that the system has found a problem and is not engaging the compressor, so as it knows there is a problem if you read the codes it will let you know what it is. Many of the basic code readers are only designed to deal with the engine and what can be seen on the OBD2 specification. You will need something VAG specific to get the codes from the climate control system (e.g. VCDS).

As you know it is fully gassed, the most likely candidate is the pressure sensor as you mention above. So you have two options, buy a sensor and try it, or get the codes read by someone who has VCDS (or buy the cable/software yourself) so you can make sure you are getting the right part. Depending on where you are you may find someone is about who will read them for you....

Thanks for that GeorgeE - I'll see if I can grab someone who has VCDS and look to take it from there otherwise I'll at least take a look at the sensor and see if I can check it's physical condition.

See here for my note on possibly getting codes direct form the climate control unit: How To Change the G65 Aircon Thrust/Pressure Sensor - Page 2

Ah, that's a shame. I just updated my other post to be a bit clearer on how to access it in case it wasn't clear and maybe misled you. Press ECON / AC, hold it, then RECIRC for a few seconds.
