    Hi all,

I have a VW Golf Mk5 Tdi 8v (BKC Engine, no DPF) my car was taken in for an MOT and failed miserably on the MOT smoke test, Averaged 2.42 which is way above the limit of 0.80. I am wondering what to do next to ensure it passes? I have also recently had the Engine/Exhaust light on, which gave a code of P0401. I have cleaned the EGR out and aim to clean the intake manifold out too but the light will still come back on after 30 miles, can anyone advise on what to do next? Cheers.

Hi Mate, it's 2004 and no the light isn't on as I reset it using my OBD2 before it was MOT'd. It's saying the EGR System has 'Not Passed' on the emissions test part of my app for the OBD2. I presume that implies the EGR needs replacing?

So they are using the 0.8 manufacturers plate limit. I would tippex over the 0.8 symbol on the vin plate. Then put some fuel system cleaner in and get it hot bit of an Italian tune up ie a damn good drive. They then have to test it at the default value of 3.00.

As far as the egr, remove the hose suck on the pipe does it hold vacumn. If not replace it.

Sounds like the egr is sticking open causing more incomplete combustion .

Don't know how valid the tipex is so the default 3.00 is used , lol .

Because if there is no mpv value on the vin they have to test at default
