No, I bailed out of diesels for good earlier this year when I sold my 13 year old passat, just acquaintance with a troublesome 1.6 and discussion on this and other forums. These EGR coolers seem to get replaced reasonably frequently when the EGR valve fails, which is integral to the cooler. I've seen figures of several hundred £ for replacement as its a time consuming job and recommended to fit OEM equipment rather than aftermarket. An internal coolant leak in the EGR cooler would not be visible and the coolant would be evaporated in the exhaust gases. It could be a minor external leak from hose or waterpump etc that is not usually visible as it evaporates before leaving a puddle, but you might see a pink antifreeze crust building up at the leak point or it could be a head gasket leak, which would be another internal invisible leak.
